Story Summary

Taking place in a solarpunk future of an alternate Earth, this coming of age story follows Franklin, a 19-year-old rabbit, as he grieves the loss of his father to suicide and adjusts to life without him. With the support of his guardian, Max, his friends, Matilda and Isaac, a therapist [unnamed, still being developed], and his community, he learns how to cope with his feelings and heal from this experience. All seems to be going well... until he has his first manic episode and is diagnosed with Bipolar 1 disorder.

Franklin's World isn't just a story about grief, healing, and chronic illness. It's also one of adventure, political upheaval, science fiction, and... mail? Yes, you heard me right, a central plot line of this story is Franklin training to join a specialized, decentralized mail-delivery system as a part of the "speed-type" deliverers, a subtype that focuses on parkour and express delivery in urban areas. Very shounen in presentation.

The mail system is a central part of the setting and lore. Familiarizing yourself with it is crucial to understanding my artistic vision for this story.

...I'm only half-joking. I put a lot of thought into this specifically. Yes, my priorities are in order.

Currently, the plan is to write the story in the form of prose, with illustrations interspersed throughout. However, the original vision for this story was for it to be a comic. I'm undecided on how I'll proceed, or if I'll do a mix of both. For now, the site is set up as though the story will be prose with illustrations.

About the Site

This website was originally meant to just be a wiki for the story (yes, a wiki for a story that doesn't exist). I chose this route at first because I was sure that I would never make the story, convinced that I didn't have the level of skill or dedication to complete it.

However, as I added content to the site, I realized that I wanted to tell the story. So, the site (as of 1/1/24) has been changed to a site meant to proper host a story.

There are pages from the site's wiki phase that still exist for my own planning purposes (and also in case I ever decide to actually make a wiki, which will only happen once I've written the story). Otherwise, everything is dedicated to hosting the story and supporting media.

About the Author

I'm a young adult with a passion for mental health. Franklin came to be during a psych hospital stay in 2020; he was a vessel for self-expression, and he was also a way for me to internalize what I was learning about self-care by having him model the behavior and mindset I wanted to adopt.

I've been drawing and writing my whole life, but started practicing seriously at around 11 years old. I have minimal experience with making comics, but have lots of practice with individual illustrations and prose, which is why, despite originally envisionining this story as a comic, I've decided for now to switch to writing out the story with supporting illustrations.

When I'm not drawing or writing, I like to read, play Splatoon, watch video essays, listen to music, and hang out with my loved ones. I'm a big nerd about psychology, particularly abnormal psych, but also have strong feelings about social justice. I also find sociology and anthropology interesting. I just love people!
